Beautiful Homes of Instagram

 

It’s truly a pleasure to share a new “Beautiful Homes of Instagram“ with all of you on this wintery December day. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada – a city I love, by the way! — Lindsey’s, from @The.Executive.Way, home features a ski lodge vibe that is perfect for this time of the year. All rooms feel warm, cozy and inviting. I can easily picture myself curling up with a soft throw or drinking a cup of coffee by the kitchen island with this new friend.

“First and foremost, I am so honored and excited to be featured in this month’s “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”, and because it’s the month of December, I am sharing our home decked out for the holidays.

Our home is a 4 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath, 2585 sq ft (plus 925 sq ft basement) which totals 3220 sq ft total, two-story home. Our exterior is made out of Hardie board and stone with a 3 car garage.

We custom built our house with a local home builder “@VenetoHomes” and at the time I had one vision in mind… and that was to build a ‘farmhouse!’ Veneto Homes was so great to work with, I told them my vision, and they brought it life. I had a few major things on my wish list; barn doors, beams, lots of stone, and natural elements, and it’s so funny because most people building a brand new house would want everything prim and perfect but instead I was asking for it to look reclaimed and vintage!

We have all 3 levels developed, so on our main level we have our front entrance, mudroom, den (computer room) family room and kitchen. Upstairs we have our master bedroom, full ensuite (bath and shower) two kids rooms, full bathroom, laundry room, and a bonus room. Usually people here make their bonus rooms just another family room, but because we developed our basement I decided that we didn’t need another tv room.. so we made this room a homework/play room for our girls… and we just love how it turned out. In our fully developed basement we decided to design it kind of like a ‘man cave’, so we have one spare bedroom, a big open family room, and a bar.”

My husband and I put up the reclaimed barn wood as a diy together, and actually I believe this was our first diy in this house.

DIY Reclaimed Barnwood Wall: Found locally at an antique store – real reclaimed barnwood.

Paint Color

Paint color throughout the whole house is Sherwin Williams Mommia CL 2675D.

Trim: Sherwin Williams Antique White.

Hardwood Floors: Trillium Strand Woven Bamboo/Antique Wheat.

I love how these diy birch lantern holders turned out! Lantern are from Pottery Barn.

Den

This inviting den features barn doors and a striking cow’s hide herringbone rug.

Furniture is from Pottery Barn.

Kitchen & Dining Area

I feel the kitchen is the heart of the home, and I just wanted a place where family and friends could gather for the holidays. I have a big family, so I wanted a large table that could seat all of us at Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter etc.

Kitchen

Before we started making any building plans, I knew I wanted a farmhouse kitchen. I wanted a copper farmhouse sink, beams, and a big hood fan. I also knew I wanted lots of lanterns for lighting.

Backsplash: Travertine and Brick- courtyard red/paver.

Lanterns: Cabelas – Canada.

Kitchen Island

Countertop is Granite – Stormy Night.

Kitchen Island Cabinet: Style-Seville-southwest Distressing -Maple/Antique white-chocolate glaze

Copper Farmhouse Sink

What a gorgeous hammered copper farmhouse sink!

Sink: Farmhouse Copper Sink: Elkay.

Faucet: Moen.

Dark Cabinets

Dark Cabinets: Oak/stained “Thunderstorm”. Style: Liberty.

Barstools: Pottery Barn.

Host Chairs

Log

One of the reasons I invited Lindsey to be part of this series is because she is incredibly talented and creative with DIY projects. Isn’t this DIY Birch log centerpiece a fun idea?!

Ski Lodge Inspired

How festive! I am loving this ski lodge-inspired tablescape. It brings the feeling of being in Aspen, or should I say, Whistler – right to your dining room.

Family Room

I had my heart set on putting a full wall of stone, but I was a little worried that it would look to heavy.. so I came up with the idea of putting the two cabinets on either side – one for tv components and one for real cut birch logs – when we were out for dinner at the keg Canada. They had a gas fireplace with a cabinet full of real cut birch logs, and it just looked so cozy!

The reclaimed barnwood wood sign was also a diy.

Stone

Stone: Legerstone/Boral cultured stone/Black Rundle.

Mantel: Beam-wood bean company – Hand scraped/Thunderstorm.

Covered Deck

My husband and I built this diy patio couch and we LOVE how it turned out. It adds so much extra seating for our friends and family.

Deck: Duradek vinyl decking.

Laundry Room

I just wanted our laundry room to be functional first/foremost, but then I added a little rustic charm with my diy laundry sign.

Granite: Stormy Night

Mudroom

The mudroom features a natural DIY pine shiplap wall.

Master Bedroom

I wanted to create a space that was calm, relaxing and cozy. The backsplash of our house has warm tones, and dark wood so I wanted to contrast that with antique white linens/knits, and lots of texture.
