We truly work many and many hours to provide you with the best and the most details as possible and it’s with this thought that I am very happy to be sharing this home gorgeously built by Koi Construction and Development and with architecture by Hollingsworth Design. Located in New Orleans, this home exudes beauty, elegance and a great floor plan – which should inspire you, especially if you’re looking into building your dream home on a small/narrow lot.

Interior Design Ideas: New Orleans Home

Exterior trim is painted Sherwin Williams Pure White – Cast stone trim on windows and trimming front entrance. Color is Audubon grey smooth.

Exterior Details

The exterior is brick with white mortar – sacking rub covering brick.

Front exterior windows are Jeld Wed vinyl clad, color – black.

Roofing shingles are GAF Slateline, color – Antique Slate.

Front iron door from the Benton Collection in Antique Bronze color.

Foyer

What an impressive foyer! The iron staircase railings was custom fabricated by Budget Iron Works – Color: black.

Door hardware is made by Emtek.

Interior walls are Sherwin Williams Pure White – trim is the same color but in semi-gloss.

The dining room features plenty of natural light and the size is ideal – not too big nor too small. Notice the gorgeous built-in hutch, the white linen drapes with brass hardware and the groin vault ceiling.

Wood floors are reclaimed Dirty top White Oak 10.5-inch-wide boards finished in Provincial stain.

Kitchen

Cypress beams frames the kitchen opening.

Kitchen perimeter is Benjamin Moore OC-54 White Wisp.

Family Room

The kitchen opens directly to a very comfy and inviting family room. The coffee table was missing when these pictures were taken but it eventually arrived. It happens, right?

The powder room features a stunning custom vanity cabinet, mirror and sconces. They are fabricated and painted in a cream whitewash finish with gold trim.

This girls’ bathroom feels feminine, thanks to the traditional mirror, and timeless at the same time. I really like the cabinet layout. Wall color is Pure White by Sherwin Williams.

The master bathroom is truly breathtaking! Grey vanities are complemented with brass hardware and marble tiling adds a traditional and timeless feel to the space.

Corner Lot New-Construction Home Ideas

 

Built and designed by Veranda Estate Homes Inc., this custom home was designed to take advantage of the unique raised corner lot that it sits on. Every side of this home had large scale windows to take advantage of the raised elevation off the street which gives it total privacy and walls of green trees once summer decides to show its face in Calgary. Since the home was a spec home, meaning the builder was building it without specific clients in mind, they were able to push the envelope with the overall plan and interior selections.

While each space is unique and individual, they kept the theme of black, white, and natural color wood elements consistent throughout the home. There are a lot of elements in this home that the designer, Melissa Manzardo Hryszko, gets asked about often. One is the staircase railing, which is a design she came up with for another home about 7 years ago. While it is certainly not cost effective, she felt it was a great investment for the space as it certainly demands attention. The staircase is a combination of custom iron post in a matte black finish, 10 mm glass panels, & a 1/4 sawn oak handrail. It goes perfectly with the black stringers and natural finish hardwood treads.

The other feature people love are the dividers that she incorporated into the informal dining area. This space is viewed right when you walk into the home so she knew they had to somehow make this space special and define it in some way. The industrial feel that these dividers add was the perfect touch to define the space.

The counters are another thing people loved when viewing this home, you can’t help but touch them! They are a leathered Angola Black granite, simple and clean but the leathered finish takes these up a level!

The house features a side entry oversized attached garage with 8’ tall cedar stained garage door.

Home Style: West Coast Contemporary style exterior c/w low pitched roofs, 3’ overhangs, metal roof accents, cedar siding sections, and timber post detailing.

House Size: 3,733 Sq. Ft. custom built 2-storey home.

The custom-made 9’ tall front doors are White Oak – stained Back with glass inserts – Similar font doors: here, here & here.

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood flooring is finished on site 3” & 5” alternating boards in 1/4 & rift cut white oak finished with a custom stain and Bona Traffic in a matte finish applied.

The breakfast nook features glass & lacquered dividers.

The lighting is Visual Comfort (Aged Iron – Extra Large).

Kitchen

This kitchen feels dramatic, modern and unapologetic. I love the layout and the raised kitchen island.

All of the cabinets throughout are custom and built-on-site in the home. The designer/builder went with a 1/4 Sawn White Oak for all of the back stained cabinetry.

Raised Countertop

Raised marble counter in the kitchen is polished Statuario marble with mitered waterfall detailing.

Dark Stained Cabinetry

All black stained windows & cabinetry is a custom blended black stain and it was shaded to create the depth that you see in the images. Any painted cabinets are created with MDF and paint grade woods.

Traditional Kitchen Reno Ideas

 

Recently renovated by Roomscapes Cabinetry and Design Center, this South Shore Massachusetts kitchen remodel falls squarely into the “lemonade out of lemons” category. Due to ice damn damage, the client needed to undertake the replacement of water damaged cabinetry. While making the change they opted to update the space with an open family gathering space so necessary to the busy lives of a growing family.

Traditional Kitchen Reno Ideas

Dividing walls were taken down and pushed back. Cabinetry layout was re-configured to allow for a full view to the beautiful marsh at the rear of the property.

Breakfast Nook

A large banquet was built under the oversized picture window acting as a gathering space for family plus friends, neighbors and extended family.

Kitchen Layout

The refrigerator was relocated, the range installed at the corner, and a demi-height cabinet to house a second oven created so that no cabinetry blocked the view.

Kitchen Island

The obvious challenge was to work around the large post located in the exact center of the space. The clients need for a large prep and eating island led to the perfect solution of a reverse tiered island that wrapped fully into and incorporated the post clad in wainscot detail. Wood was introduced at the eating portion of the island to add warm notes to the kitchen and connect to the view of nature beyond.

Bar Cabinet

Purposed cabinetry zones were installed including a tall pantry with many pullouts and custom shelving as secondary storage for dry goods and appliances.

Wine Refrigerator

The custom paneled tall wine refrigeration unit was installed at the bar area completing the circle of space for family gathering, management and entertaining.

Subzero and Wolf appliances used include: Integrated refrigeration, duel fuel range, wall oven, microwave drawer, beverage center, tall wine storage unit with refrigerator drawers below.

Cabinet Paint Color

Paint color is Kendall Charcoal by Benjamin Moore.

Kitchen Desk

A custom desk was installed with a linen covered bulletin board, recessed printer station hidden away and a repeat of the same wood on the island.

Wall color is Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray.

Texas Gulf Coast Beach House

 

Beautifully designed by Julie Barrett Design, this classic coastal home is located on the Texas Gulf Coast in the community of Crystal Beach. Its crisp coastal color and clean lines make this beachfront home a fun and relaxing retreat. Filled with natural light and comfortable seating, it invites you to sit down and take in the panoramic views.

How cheerful is this beach house! The exterior paint color is custom, but, according to the designer, a similar color would be Sherwin Williams Tame Teal SW 6757. If you prefer it to be darker, Benjamin Moore Tropicana Cabana is also a great turquoise/teal color. Trim color is Sherwin Williams Pure White 7005.

Hello, my wonderful friends! I am very happy to start this new week with one of the most amazing “Before and After” ever shared on Home Bunch. Sara, from @simplysoutherncottage, will certainly inspire and teach us a few important things, such as, to never, and I mean NEVER understate the power of visualization. Trust me, you must have a lot of power of visualization to transform what this cottage used to be to what it is today. I can’t find words to tell you how much I admire Sara and I just became her newest fan and follower! I hope you do the same!

Meet the Homeowner

Oh my goodness y’all, I am beyond excited to be featured on Home Bunch this week. I’m Sara @simplysoutherncottage and almost a year ago, I wrapped up a MAJOR restoration project of my 1926 Louisiana cottage. Born and raised in the northern part of the state, once I left for college in Arkansas I said I would NEVER come back. Famous. Last. Words. After being away for nearly 15 years, my heart started stirring and longing to be back with my family. In December 2014 while driving around a quaint, southern, historic community, I stumbled upon this house and immediately knew it was supposed to be mine.

Before

I mean, it looks vacant, right? And it was. But persuading the family to sell, who had owned it for ninety years, proved extremely challenging. Even though it was in shambles, I could see in my mind all of the after pictures you are about to encounter. I KNEW what was hiding underneath the brush, decay and clutter. And after a twenty two long month love affair with this cottage, I finally was able to secure it. You can read the entire story here. Luciane will be showing you all of the beautiful after pictures, but you’ll definitely want to visit my blog to see all of the befores. By day, I am a senior educational sales consultant, and by night I love to “play with” and invest in other real estate properties. When time allows, I enjoy writing and you can find more of my personal journey on “SimplySara” and more about my cottage on “SimplySouthernCottage”. I’m highly motivated and extremely driven. Each morning I wake up with joyful expectation, excited about what will unfold during the day. I love Jesus and my family with my entire heart. I also love to read and I spend LOTS of time outdoors, both in my yard and doing outdoor fitness activities. Almost every week, you’ll find me on an airplane traveling for work and sometimes, I’m able to squeak in some personal adventures to feed my wanderlusting soul. I’m deeply Southern through and through and if you ever hear me talk, you’ll definitely notice my drawl that’s thick as molasses! I get asked a lot…. “Why the yellow door?” I knew from the get go, I wanted a bright, cheery, colorful and inviting exterior.  This yellow door exudes joy and positivity and anyone who sees it, just has to smile.

Park

My cottage sits directly across the street from a historical park. In 1850, an all boys school was constructed (in the current park) but closed in 1898 when the public school opened. The actual school building was eventually relocated, turned into a hotel and, sadly torn down in the 1970s. The park commemorates the academy and this gazebo sits in nearly the same location as the one constructed in the 1850s.

Welcome Home!

Neutral décor and simplicity make my heart sing.  Walking into a peaceful, calm environment at the end of a long travel week, soothes my soul.  So inside my home, you won’t see much variety in color. But what you will see are bright, simple spaces! While I’m not a minimalist, per se, I’m not really a “things girl” and really adore an uncluttered home.

Three walls had to come down to create this space.  You are looking from the library area, into the living room and then into the dining kitchen area.

White Couch and chair: Normanson by Birch Lane Sofa & Chair.

Chandelier: Old World 9 light chandelier.

Millwork

All woodwork in the home is original to the cottage, but was covered by layers of wallpaper and paneling. It was milled from one of the first sawmills in Louisiana. All walls are painted Snowbound by Sherwin Williams.  Trim and all cabinets are Alabaster by SW.

Island Backside

I got most of my inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest.  I knew I wanted a rustic island similar to Becky Cunningham’s @becky.cunningham.home (also a fellow Louisiana décor Instagrammer) and after showing Shreveport Salvage several pictures, they were certain they could build something similar.  And I couldn’t be more pleased with the way it turned out.

More Details

Island: Custom made from salvaged wood from one of the oldest houses in North Louisiana. Barnwood top is from a 100 year old salvaged barn, a parish over.

Looking from the kitchen, down the hallway into the mudroom area. Laundry room door was salvaged and repurposed from the home. Decal can be found here.  I made the magnolia wreath hanging on the back door.

The cabinet above the washer/dryer is original to the cottage.  Prior to restoration, it was housed in almost the same location but over the original kitchen sink.

Room Layout

Looking from the kitchen area, into the living area and finally into the library. Three walls were taken out to create this flowing space. All floors are original to the cottage. The black candlestick you see on the left was found at a rummage sale.

This space is perfect to curl-up with a good book at the end of day.

DIY Bookwall

After being inspired by Erin @cottonstem’s bookwall, I decided to give it a go in the library area of my cottage.  I came across this quote somewhere online and knew I wanted it to be my focal point.  So I got to work one evening with some old books, nails and duct tape and made this happen! I LOVE the way it turned out.

Theater chairs are from a local antique shop and were salvaged from a theater in Michigan.

Fireplace

The fireplace was originally located in the living area, but I relocated it to the library and decided on a gas log insert. The bricks for the surround and hearth were given to be by a neighbor. And the windows and the mantel pictured here are both original to the home. Behind the windows are farmhouse style bi-fold doors to hide a TV. But, as part of my ongoing simplification process, I’ve chosen to not have a TV! This area used to be a bedroom. The fireplace surround and bookshelves are completely new.

Ceiling

One of my favorite things about the cottage are these amazing ceilings! They had been covered up with drop ceiling tiles so I was ecstatic when those came down and this gorgeous wood was hiding underneath! (The perpendicular boards you see are where the walls were.)

Chicken coop coffee table: Custom built by Shreveport Salvage.

Hardwood floors are refinished and original to the house.

Stairwell

Upstairs was originally a wide open attic space. I finished it out to create 2 bedrooms, a living area and a guest bath. The sconces on the wall shown here are original to the cottage and repurposed from a different location – similar here.

Guest Bath

This guest bathroom is completely new to the cottage and did not exist prior to restoration.  It is a converted space in the attic area.  The washstand was found at an area junk shop and if you look closely it fits JUST right!

Home Office

My office area.  I was SO disappointed when this desk arrived.  It clearly said the desk was “white” on the Birch Lane site, but when it came in, it was definitely a buttery yellow.  Then it was super hard to put together. But ultimately I decided to keep it! I love the functionality and storage it offers.  Yes it has drawers and cabinets on BOTH sides (it isn’t turned incorrectly).  The off-white color really does seem to work in the room and it’s definitely growing on me!

The cabinets that flank the windows are repurposed from the kitchen area.  The chair is a Facebook garage sale find that I customized a bit – similar here – Other Great Desk Chairs: here, here & here.

Master Bedroom

I extended the calm, neutral palette into my bedroom area.  You can see there isn’t a lot of clutter in my home.  I love keeping everything simple, neat and organized.  It makes my life SO much easier! The little grate above the headboard is actually the ornamental piece from my grandparents’ screen door.  I salvaged two of those to use in my cottage.

Always There

One of my favorite scriptures and a constant reminder of where I’ve been and how far I’ve come.  Also, my biblical basis to live simply.  (Created by @treasuredpearlhandmade)

Reuse & Reinvent

I reused every single original door that was found in the cottage.  For my master closet and master bath, I repurposed two of the original French doors that led into the dining area.  By placing them on barn door tracks, I was able to save space in these areas.

Master Bathroom

The master bath was completely gutted and is brand new.  I wanted clean, simple lines and again, soothing, calming spaces.

Master Shower

The shower features subway tile and penny round floor tile.

Mudroom

My mudbench area was formerly the laundry porch and was not heated and cooled. Therefore, it was actually one of the most deteriorated parts of the cottage. I knew I needed a place to dump my purse and coat when I come in the back door, so this area was perfect for that purpose! The knobs are the former plumbing fixtures from the master bath and the locker baskets are salvaged from my old high school before it was razed. The back door is actually the former front door I repurposed here.

Back Porch

Originally, the cottage did not have a back porch.  I knew I would need a place for coffee drinking, book readin’, and afternoon nappin’, so I decided to add on an amazing porch area. And honestly, this is where I spend the bulk of my time when I’m home.  After seeing many amazing bedswings on Instagram and Pinterest, I showed pictures to a local artisan, Ali’s Creations, and this is my vision come to life under her hammer.  Definitely my favorite place under my entire roof!

Sara really knows how to add charm and beauty to her home.

The back porch features petunias.

Greenhouse

Most of the original windows were severely damaged, so ultimately I decided to replace them with new, energy efficient windows.  I knew immediately though, I wanted to save all the old windows to have a functional greenhouse built in my backyard.

Hidden Treasure

About 12 years ago, my neighbors were tired of looking at the decaying, unkempt cottage. To remedy that, they built this amazing brick fence! And all these years later, I get to be the beneficiary! What a dream!

Garage

One evening as I was outside watering, I turned around to head back for more water, and this sight literally took my breath away. A storm had passed through and the remnants at sunset were spectacular! The garage is newly constructed and not original to the cottage. Upstairs is for storage. To the left of the one car garage is my craft room.

Dawn

I feel that Sara’s home is a proof that dreams do come true when you visualize, believe and work hard for them. Believe in your personal dreams…

Farmhouse-Style Home Inspired by Chip & Joanna Gaines

 

Given one of the largest lots in this particular community, the builders at Pike Properties LLC  (also featured here & here), set out to design a home that maximized the lot. They also wanted to build something no one else had built in the area, a Modern Farmhouse. With so much momentum going towards the Modern Farmhouse style, mainly thanks to Chip and Joanna Gaines, they knew they couldn’t go wrong with the look. Plus, they are big fans of the style as well. Working with their award winning architects, they came up with what you see here. The covered front porch is a must for a farmhouse-style home. The focal point is the two story jut-out portion of the front anchored by a pair of wing walls. The metal roofed awning, exposed rafter tails, and cedar columns and brackets bring everything together.

What a welcome home statement this is! This is the view from the moment you walk in the front door. You immediately notice how open the floor plan is and feel the inviting nature of the home beckoning you inside. We didn’t want to have to walk in and see a boring stair railing and balusters, so we opted for this one of a kind curved railing that hides the stairway just enough and provides for a WOW factor upon entering the home. Shiplap wainscoting was a must.

I can’t get over the abundance of natural light that is present throughout this home.

Acting as the formal and informal dining space, we ensured that both casual and more elegant elements were used. All the windows look out onto the wraparound covered rear porch.

The ceiling is called an “x-beam” ceiling, and we inset shiplap trim to add texture and visual interest, and because Chip and Joanna Gaines and the whole Modern Farmhouse style called for it.

Kitchen

Would a modern farmhouse kitchen be completed without a shiplap island? We didn’t think so. We choose the white quartz counter top on the island and white surround cabinets, but went with a grey island base and dark surround countertops.

The variation in colors and textures makes this kitchen stand out from the rest. The center island is a whooping 11′ in width! Plenty of room for the family to gather around and for some quality cooking or baking to take place.

Symmetry

You will find some great symmetry here! I love when builders incorporate windows on either side of the range/range hood. The pot filler is made a statement piece thanks to the picture frame tile detail.

Here you can see how the kitchen opens to the keeping room. It is truly a perfect layout for casual living. The island base color and hood color is Benjamin Moore HC-166 Kendall Charcoal.

Keeping Room

This room is what is referred to as a Keeping Room, and a lot of people have never heard that term before! The room in short is “a space adjacent to a home’s kitchen where people can kick back and keep the cook company”. We vaulted the ceiling in this space to make it feel extra roomy. More shiplap can be found above the fireplace. This is the room perfect for relaxing evenings and or morning cups of coffee. It also opens out to the covered porch.

Inspired by an Instagram post we came across, this bathroom vanity makes quite a statement. The apron was hand selected from a local supplier of reclaimed wood and stained in a cedar tone (Benjamin Moore Natural Cedar Tone). The floor tile in this bathroom is so stylish and appealing.

This owner’s suite is filled with visual interest. The wallpaper accent wall is such a nice touch and brings texture to the space. We choose some funky bedside pendants to hang on either side of the bed, perfect for cozying up and reading a book before bedtime. The tray ceiling is accented with inlaid shiplap trim. Shiplap is truly everywhere in this home!

Bringing together white shiplap, an espresso vanity, brass hardware, and cedar wood shelves was the perfect combo for this bathroom.

Whether you are a shower or bath person, this bathroom has it hard to choose! Here you can see the 6″ elevated platform that we placed the soaking tub on. Doing this minor change in height gives the tub a grand feel and makes you feel like a king or queen when walking in to take a bath!

Bath Nook

The amazing natural light continues in with this raised tub platform with beautiful clawfoot soaking tub. This is such a relaxing spot and privacy abounds out the windows, meaning you don’t need any unsightly window treatments. We incorporated the niche with cedar shelves for a convenient spot for towels and accessories to add some style to the space.

Shower Tile

We always carve out lots of space to ensure a grand and impressive walk-in shower in the master bath. This one has a rain head and traditional wall mounted head, and a convenient bench seat. Instead of your typical subway tile, we choose a textured rectangular subway tile which creates some textures, and the floor tile is absolutely stunning and is a throwback to a historic farmhouse.

Covered Porch

What a relaxing space this is. Given a backyard that had privacy at the rear and side, we made sure the rear porch was located at the corner of the home and we even wrapped it around the side of the home a bit, as you can see in the other photo.

Wrap-around

Here you can see how the porch wraps around the side of the home. This is also a great example of how many windows are throughout this home! Almost no blank wall space in this photo whatsoever.

Side of Home/Carriage House

The garage is strategically tucked back at the rear corner of the homesite, and the driveway takes you alongside the home. This allowed for a convenient side entry porch providing easy access from the garage to the main home. The metal roof overhang with cedar brackets plays off the carriage house overhang and vice versa.

Carriage House

Many would call this a detached garage, but we would call it a carriage house. Why? Simply because it is so beautiful and detailed, from the metal roof overhang, to the cedar brackets, to the doors themselves. Also, with unfinished space above the garage, it really is a true carriage house.

Paint Color

This shot shows off all the cedar detailing as well as the impressive exposed rafter tails. It is hard to tell if this is a detached garage or a country horse barn. Modern farmhouse style at it’s finest here.

Hello, everyone! I am so happy to share this new “Interior Design Ideas” with you. Today, I’m featuring a stunning home built by a well-known Calgary building company, Veranda Estate Homes. Here, they explain more about this inspiring project.

 

“My husband & I own and operate a small boutique custom home building company, Veranda Estate Homes in Calgary, Alberta Canada. This project is our last home that we designed and built for ourselves. We sold this home a year ago and are now in the process of building our dream home. Besides building our own home we also have many other projects on the go at any given time, from custom estate homes for clients, to large scale renovations and spec homes in desirable communities throughout our city. There is never a dull moment around here with our two boys and the company. Besides being on all of the sites daily and dealing with our incredibly talented trade base I am working with our clients to ensure that their home is perfect…it is a lot of fun!

Maximizing natural light and the view of the land was key when we designed our last home that was situated on a treed two acre parcel. With a pond at the back and towering trees the we wanted the exterior of the home to blend into nature. When designing the floorplan we kept in mind our love to entertain & that we had a young family. The home is finished with exquisite built-on-site cabinetry, wide plank hardwood floors, and great attention to detail, which is evident in every room. From the grand entrance featuring stunning curved staircases, to the marble counters and solid slab backsplash, this home is elegant but not intimidating.  The design allowed great flow and unique spaces for every member of our family and guest to enjoy for years to come.“

Front doors custom, in iron. The doors are 8′ tall and 5′ wide.

Front entrance tile is a vein cut honed grey Limestone in a chevron pattern.

Paint Color

Paint color is Benjamin Moore Seapearl OC-19.

Dining Room

The dining room feels collected and inviting. It features a built-in hutch, black windows and 10′ ceilings.

Lighting is Arteriors.

Dining room furniture is Drexel Heritage.

Window Treatment: Silk side panels (similar here) with antique brass hardware.

Built-in Cabinet

The dining room features a built-in hutch with custom blended stain.

Paint color is Raccoon Fur 2126-20 by Benjamin Moore – it looks quite light on these images due the reflection of the light – the paint color is a dark navy.

Butler’s Pantry Countertop

The butlers pantry features solid Statuario slab marble countertop and backsplash with a curved return.

Faucet: Brizo.

Countertop is a butcher block – Birch with a stain and lacquer finish applied. Minimal maintenance is required.

Kitchen Appliances: Sub fridge, Thermador range top, Kitchen Aid wall ovens, Bosch dishwasher, Vent-A-Hood liner.

Lighting above kitchen window are Visual Comfort.

Kitchen Bridge Faucet: Perrin & Rowe.

Cabinetry

Cabinet Details: Custom built-on-site cabinetry out of MDF & paint grade woods with shaker style doors.

Fireplace Stone

The stone on the fireplace is a natural stone veneer. It’s similar to Montana Quartz.

The windows are an aluminum clad exterior window with wood on the interior.

Paint Color

Walls and trim paint color is Seapearl by Benjamin Moore.

Ceiling

The beams in the Great Room were out of alder and built-on-site by the builder finishers.

Rustic Modern Farmhouse

 

This rustic modern farmhouse was designed and built in 2017 by Rafterhouse. They collaborated with Integrated Design on the architectural inspiration and design of the home. The neighborhood is comprised of modest 1950’s range homes so their concept centered on recreating a modern version of the post war ranch home. The home stayed modest in its proportions and relation to the neighboring homes, despite offering all the amenities of a present day home. The interior was warmed up with the grey ash cabinetry and an extensive use of warm wood tones while being balanced by the elegance of the many marble surfaces.

The Heart of the Home

The front door opens to an open-concept kitchen and dining room.

The kitchen has a very rustic farmhouse feel thanks to the ceiling beams and the barnwood island details.

Ceiling Treatment: Exposed decorative beams.

Farmhouse Island Detail

From the builder: One of the memorable details of this home is the custom island we designed and built. The concept involved taking a semi-custom cabinetry line and building a full custom island around it. The island ends and underside of the island overhang were skinned in vertical shiplap. To bring in a contrasting material we added the custom barn wood ‘x’ detail to each end of the island. We then used a piece of scrap barn wood to add an apron detail across the front of the range hood to tie to the two kitchen features together.

This island is 9’x4’ in size.

The kitchen countertop is Bianco Venatino Marble, in a honed finish.

The kitchen hood was custom built by the builder’s on-staff carpenter.

The breakfast nook was kept simple with a dining table and bench set, clean-lined dining chairs and a drum chandelier.

Located off the garage, this entry features a built-in bench with Walnut top and a custom Diamond-shaped wall paneling.

Trim and wainscoting paint color is Dunn Edwards White DEW380.

Inspiration

This “Diamond shiplap” wainscoting is so fun and very creative! I’m loving this idea.

What a great farmhouse laundry room. This room feels warm and very inviting… which is a plus, since chances are that you would spend a lot of time in here. I sure spend many hours in mine!

Hacienda-Style Home

 

Seeing a home with real character is always a treat – one that actually doesn’t add any extra pounds, which is always a plus, right?! This beautiful Hacienda-style home was perfectly designed by Heather Scott Home & Design (also featured – and very loved – here). She furnished and decorated this home by reusing a lot of the clients existing furnishings. The designer then covered them in new fabric to match the new and updated color scheme.

This elegant living room features a pair of sofas with waterfall skirt facing each other and matching chairs. The large cocktail table is solid mahogany wood with weathered finish.

Pillows on chairs are custom, silvery blue velvet – similar here, here & here.

Coffee Table: Noir.

Paint Color

Paint color is very similar to Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17.

Side Chair Details: The designer reupholstered the existing chairs in off-white velvet with Rust patterned fabric on the back.

Rug: Turkish knot Oushak style (aged/washed) rug in ivory – similar here, here & here.

Dining Room

Elegance meets practicality! The designer used Sunbrella velvet fabric on the chairs. Gorgeous and easy to clean!

Family Room

The family room is connected to the kitchen and breakfast room (not photographed) and it features a long white sectional sofa with an indoor/outdoor fabric.

The space also features blue and white accent pillows, flat-weave striped rug. On the far right you will find a game table with iron cage chandelier.

The master bedroom features a neutral color palette. The bed is made of a lush velvet and it’s topped with Euro pillows with “marble” movement detail, neutral bedding and also a custom rust and blush velvet lumbar pillow.

Neutral Home Interior Ideas

 

Beautifully designed by two very talented interior designers, Mitzi Maynard and Clare Kennedy, this neutral home has 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms (6 including pool house), and a total of 6,500 square feet.

The homeowners began building this neutral home in the fall of 2015, and it was completed in the Spring of 2017. This home combines a few different architectural styles. The exterior is a fresh take on a traditional home, which works well in their established neighborhood in Nashville. The interior of the home has a more Modern/Mediterranean style with a neutral color scheme that is easy on the eyes and soothing to the soul.

Neutral Home Interior Ideas

The homeowners are minimalists in style but are full of energy and playfulness.We had to strike a balance between comfort and livability for their family (pets included) while carefully curating a beautiful minimalist space.

We designed this space to be the perfect multi-functional space for a family that loves to entertain.

Built-in Bench

The built in reading bench is their favorite place to read a book or take a nap in the sunshine. And, when they host large-scale events they simply clear out the chairs and the room transitions to a caterers dream.

Kitchen

The kitchen is defined by its clean lines, concrete countertops and hand forged hardware.  The rattan stools and vintage Oushak rug add texture and age to the space.

Cabinetry & Paint Color

The European hardware added architecture and substance to the modern custom cabinetry. The paint color is Benjamin Moore White Dove.

Island Pendant

Our client really pushed for the single-pendant over their custom concrete island. She wanted something minimalist, large scale, that added a modern glam element to the room.

Countertop

Countertop is concrete. Concrete was also used on the both sides of the kitchen island.

Minimalist decor keeps this kitchen feeling airy and uncluttered.

The dining room carries the same clean-lined feel. Metal and leather dining chairs complement a black dining table with chunky legs.

Great Room

At the center of the home is the warm and inviting living space. With its relaxed West- Coast style, it captures the feeling of true indoor/outdoor living. The towering steel doors give the perfect view to the pristinely landscaped backyard and pool.

Color Scheme

Neutral Color Scheme: We were trying to leave the colorful palette of their previous home behind us. They were ready to go neutral so we used natural elements, texture, and mixed metals to bring lay- ers and warmth to the space.

While antiquing in Michigan we found an African Carved Wood Senofu stool that is one of the homeowners favorite pieces in their living room.

Fireplace

The modern concrete fireplace wall is the centerpiece of the room and features custom designed wood push-paneled doors (that cleverly hide clutter).

Architectural Elements

Great Finds: The homeowner found some gorgeous arched vintage doors from an antique dealer in England, and she knew she had to have them. The doors are now one of the defining architectural elements in the house.

The house is nestled in a well established Nashville neighborhood. But when you walk in you feel as if you have been transported to villa in the Mediterranean. The wall of windows connect the beautiful outdoor space with the interior, creating an invitation to relax and enjoy.
