Hello, my wonderful friends! It’s really great to start this week with a new Beautiful Homes of Instagram and I know this one will inspire many readers.

Dani Ferretti of @GoldCoastCanvas is talented, brave and she is here to show us that we can make of our home a “home-sweet-home” wherever we are, regardless if it’s our forever home or a rental.

Hey friends, Dani of @goldcoastcanvas here! I’m so humbled that Luciane reached out to me and it is truly an honor to be featured among such incredibly talented designers here on HomeBunch. I never would have imagined that our once plain-jane rental home would someday be worthy of this. I am feeling excited and grateful (and maybe a little bit like the new girl at the lunch table!).

My boyfriend Brad and I both grew up in South Florida and we are true barefoot, ocean-loving Florida kids at heart. We’ve both bounced around the country (and the globe) quite a bit since leaving home. We most recently moved to Austin, Texas where we’ll stay until it’s time to make the permanent move back home to Florida.

As you can imagine, being away from family and the ocean takes some adjusting to. This is why it was so important that our home in Austin, no matter how temporary, still have space for guests and still reflect that breezy lifestyle we love most. We chose a modern, new-construction home in South Austin not far from downtown. It was the perfect jumping off point for the activities we love most: hiking the greenbelt with our chocolate lab Soko, hitting up our favorite taco truck, or catching some waves at the surf park (yes, you can surf in the middle of Texas!)

For this house, I really wanted to create a home that felt like a sanctuary and that was easy to live in – where spaces felt organic and nothing was too precious. I think that is what makes coastal homes so appealing to me. They are meant for the happy messes of sandy feet and salty hair.

Entryway

I have always loved coastal decor, but it took me years to hone in on my true design aesthetic. Once I started focusing on how I wanted our home to feel rather than how I wanted it to look, everything clicked into place.

For this house, I really wanted to create a home that felt like a sanctuary and that was easy to live in – where spaces felt organic and nothing was too precious. I think that is what makes coastal homes so appealing to me. They are meant for the happy messes of sandy feet and salty hair.

Living Room

I continued the neutral palette into the living room so as not to overwhelm the open space. I grounded it with an amazing collection of pillows from my favorite shops and an earthy, warm coffee table that everyone can gather around. We are just weeks away from getting a brand new custom sofa. I wish it had come in time for pictures but I’ll definitely be sharing it on my feed when it does arrive – so stay tuned!

The thing that sold me most on this house was the kitchen. As serial renters, we were used to dealing with suboptimal cooking spaces (our kitchen in our San Francisco apartment had about two feet of counter space!) This one felt like a long-awaited luxury to us. I softened the modern finishes with more organic selections like the vintage-inspired rug, aged cutting boards and handmade ceramic dishware.

Dining Area

Our dining room is small but I knew we needed a sizable table for big dinner gatherings. To make it work, I opted for benches that could be pushed under the table when not in use. I love how it created a cozy little nook on the wall side. The photos above the table are actually sketches of the different homes we’ve made memories in: Brad’s apartment in Sydney, the St. Louis bungalow my father grew up in and the 120 year old Victorian we lived in in San Francisco.

Guest Bedroom

Down the hall is our guest bedroom. I reupholstered an existing bed to give it a clean linen look like the one in our own room. This room really challenged me to flex my creative muscles and I love the unexpected combination of old and new. The aged metals, rugged handmade nightstands and modern decor accents all come together to create a space that I hope any guest can appreciate.

I took my time designing our master bedroom and it is my absolute favorite room in the house. I wanted to keep this room clean and simple, while still giving it enough layers to feel cozy. I stuck with two main colors – a blue/grey and cream – and brought things to life with lots of different textures. From the driftwood nightstands to the chunky cotton quilt to the faded rug, everything in this room is meant to feel a bit organic and weathered, yet still refined.

Having usable outdoor space was really important to us. However, when we moved in, our backyard was just a plain patch of grass. Since we’re renting, we worked with our landlord to come up with an affordable solution. With my dad’s help, we built this raised gravel patio ourselves!

The new raised gravel patio ended up being a hit in the neighborhood and inevitably, all of our gatherings end up out here. I’m so glad we went for it! It serves as a reminder that no matter where you’re living at the moment, it’s always worth a little investment to make it feel like home. You don’t have to wait for your dream house!

Interior Design Ideas: Home Renovation

 

Hello everyone! Do you have plans for the weekend? The weather is still very cold here and I am planning on slowing down and making some healthy and hearty meals and read “Design your next chapter” by Debbie Travis. I just got it and I am excited to start reading it. Let me know your thoughts if you have already read it. It seems to be a short and fun book – perfect to be read on a weekend.

But before I take a few hours to read my book, I hope you enjoy this beautiful home renovation done by Molly Griggs Interiors and with photography by Marina Storm of Picture Perfect House (also featured here). This is a two-story colonial home that belongs to a young family of four. They purchased their home and it was gutted to the studs to make it more open and functional for their family.

In my opinion, this home feels trendy without being ridiculous. I am sorry, but please correct if I am the only person thinking that people are overdoing when it comes to trends lately. There’s too much of the same and very little authenticity out there. Every house looks the same and everyone seems to be using the same “formula”. I have been working hard to find spaces that have a “soul” and I hope you enjoy seeing how beautifully renovated and decorated this home was. Nothing feels overdone and you can picture people actually living in these rooms. After all, that’s why we spend time and money with our home; to comfortably live in it.

White kitchens will always be a classic choice, add neutral walls and dark-stained hardwood flooring to the mix and you certainly will end-up with a space that will stand the test of time. I feel that you can and should have fun with accessories, such as decor, lighting and even with certain pieces of furniture, but try to keep the main elements classic, especially if this is not your forever home. Classic and neutral sells.

This kitchen features a fantastic layout and plenty of natural light, which is so important.

Counters are Taj Mahal Quartzite. Taj Mahal Quartzite is a natural stone and it features a soft white background and subtle gold veins.

Counterstools are Serena & Lily in Fog. These counterstools are comfortable and super easy to clean, which is a must when you have kids (of all ages) at home.

This kitchen also features a practical bar with built-in beverage fridge and upper cabinets. Great design!

The kitchen walls are Benjamin Moore “Classic Gray”.

The kitchen cabinets continue to the dining area, allowing for more storage and counter space, which can also be used a butler’s pantry when entertaining.

Empty-Nester Home Renovation

 

Hello, my friends! How is your week going so far? Before we start talking about this great home, I want to talk a little bit with you. Do you know why you’re on Home Bunch today? You’re here not only to feel inspired by beautiful homes and interior design ideas but also to leave everything behind and have a moment just for yourself. Can we do this? I have a very busy life with three kids, house, work… but I have learned that by taking a few minutes to do what we love recharges our energy and allows us to go back to our errands with a happier mood. So enjoy your daily dose of interior ideas without any guilt!

Now, let’s talk about this gorgeous empty-nester renovation… which I am sure you will love even if you have a house full of kids (or grandkids, in this case). Designed by Molly Griggs Interiors and with photography by the talented Marina Storm of Picture Perfect House (previously featured here – a house renovation you shouldn’t miss!), this is a ranch home on a golf course belonging to a couple in their 50s who had previously decorated their home in shades of gray. They soon realized it didn’t feel like “them” and they needed to infuse it with some brighter, bolder colors. The kitchen and bathrooms have been completed and the living spaces are in progress.

This kitchen features a classic layout for older homes, where the kitchen area is long but not too wide. Using custom cabinets allows this kitchen to be more functional because each area is planned ahead.

A paneled refrigerator is flanked by a bar cabinet with eclipse mullion doors and a small cabinet with microwave drawer.

I don’t think I have ever seen a better safety gate in my entire life! Note that the safety gate works the same as a “pocket door” would.

Hello, my dear friends! How are you today? I am so happy to have Beth from @mytexasfarm (please, make sure to follow her and you can shop her home here) on our weekly series “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”, and you’ll understand why when you look at her pictures. Her home makes you happy and “hugged” just by looking at it and I must  warn you… this post might make you want to leave your city life and move to a farmhouse far away from all the noise.

Here, the homeowner talks more about her “home-sweet-home”:

 

“Hello! I am so grateful for being featured on Home Bunch! We live in a small little farmhouse and I’m just doing my best to make it feel like home! My name is Beth and I am a wife and mom of three crazy little kids! We live on a horse farm in Texas. All of my kids ride and help take care of our place. I love to decorate and make spaces feel cozy, clean, and still keep them functional for a family with three young children. When its warm outside we all basically live outside. My kids love running around barefoot and they are always up to something. When we first bought out house it needed a lot of updating. We have lived here for 8 years and we are finally almost finished fixing it up! We love having privacy and a place to call our own. I love decorating with white and it can happen when you have young children! I want each room to feel like a home but still keep it trendy and always in style. I like to change things around a lot in my home. It saves tons of money and makes it feel like a whole new space just to move things around! It also lets me be creative and have something to do instead of chasing my kids around all day! I have enjoyed sharing our little home and horse farm with everyone! Our house used to be a red brick. We painted it white 2 years ago. I love having a White House! It instantly made the house look bigger and made the landscaping just come to life. The girls love walking on the river rocks.

Hello, Pretty Flowers

I much rather see flowers inside of a sink than dirty dishes.

Easter Inspiration

 We used nail polish for these. So easy! Take a cup of room temperature water, I dumped a little of the nail polish in a swirl pattern and dip the egg. Repeat this for each egg! Some tutorials I have seen said to use a fork and stir, but the polish just sticks to the fork. The water must be room temperature too. This is so easy and requires buying nothing!

Backsplash

Backsplash is a subway tile with a beveled edge in a herringbone pattern by MSI. The grout is light gray.

Kitchen cabinets are painted in Glidden Grab-and-go for high traffic areas in semi-gloss white.

Breakfast Nook

Kitchen nook is our favorite breakfast spot/ laundry table. We love to eat here and the kids help me fold laundry and look out the windows to see the horses.

We hang out here the most. Our couch is leather and I can’t imagine having anything else. We had a dog who sheds a lot and I love being able to just vacuum up the hair! Things get spilled daily and its so nice just to wipe it up.

Master Bedroom

My husband and I made the headboard. He traced out what I wanted on a piece of maple and then simply cut it out with a jigsaw. I stapled the foam on and then my mom did the upholstery on it. Shockingly its still white and looks beautiful! It costs right at $100 to make the headboard! Our room is so comfortable and my favorite place to curl up at night!

Someone gave us the playhouse and it was falling apart. We replaced some wood and painted it white and its a whole new playhouse! It costs about $100 to redo it! I love keeping things on a very low budget.

Interior Design Ideas: Modern Coastal Shingle Home

 

Built by my friends at Patterson Custom Homes (previously featured here & here), architecture by Brandon Architects, Inc., interiors by Lindye Galloway Interiors and photography by Chad Mellon Photography, this home will allow you to leave the blog feeling inspired. The interiors have a modern coastal approach and if you are crazy about pillows as much as I am, you will love this house tour because this place features many beautiful pillow combinations that you could replicate in your own home!

Taking inspiration from East Coast Traditional and Shingle style architecture, this home blends some more contemporary and modern features such as the open layout/floor plan and steel doors and windows at the entry. Another powerful feature of the design is the double height volume between the courtyard and the kitchen/second floor walk to the master. This helps provide more light and volume. Other features include exterior trellis shade structures, tall vaulted ceilings, and a stained blue shingle finish with white trim that adds to the richness in detail and design of the home.

I have waited for a long time to able to post this home and I really hope this house tour brings you some happy and inspiring moments. The builder, Patterson Custom Homes, was able to share a lot of details (they are the best!!!), but the furnishing were not available. For this reason I’ll be doing my best to share similar options so you still can get the same look!

The kitchen opens to dining room and living room. Notice the peninsula between the dining room and kitchen. It would be wonderful if the cabinet doors were added to this side as well, so it could be better accessed from the dining room. Keep this in mind if you have a similar layout.

The Great Room is located just across from the dining room and it opens to the front patio and to a private courtyard.

The designer did such a great job when decorating these floating shelves. It feels very organic, neutral with a subtle coastal vibe. I hope it inspires you.

Modern English Farmhouse

 

Hello, my friends! How are you feeling today? I hope you’re feeling good, in good health, and are able to take a few minutes to enjoy this house tour I have prepared for you. It’s truly a pleasure to share such a beautiful home!

Recently built by Macallan Custom Homes, designed by TS Adams Studio Architects (also featured here, here, here & here – yes, I do love their work! ), and with interiors by Tyler Colgan, this Modern English Farmhouse comes to detox our minds of cluttered spaces, and I don’t say that only because this home was just completed and it’s still unfurnished, but mostly because its empty spaces will allow you to imagine how you could decorate it and, most importantly, it will allow you to notice the architectural details in a way that you might not have had if this home was already furnished.

Take notes on the sources shared such as paint colors, lighting, countertops and notice the inspiring kitchen and bathrooms details. I hope you have a really good time!

If not ready to commit with black windows, grey is a color that is current but still subtle. These grey windows were painted in Mindful gray SW 7016 by Sherwin Williams.

This two-car detached garage exudes charm with its classic architectural details.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Painted Brick Exterior

 

Hi, everyone! How are you today? I had such a wonderful weekend. I baked with my husband and even attempted to make some cheese… but don’t ask about that! LOL. Anyway, I am super happy and excited because the weather is finally changing and the sun is shinning. I am also so very happy because I adore Callie of ceshome6 and her style so much that this is the second time I have her on my “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” series. The first time, I shared her formal home (you can see it here) and it became one of my most-pinned posts! Today, I am proud to be sharing Callie’s new home and I am sure you will enjoy seeing and knowing all details as much as I did!

 

“My husband and I were originally from a small town in North Texas near Oklahoma. We have known each other since kindergarten but didn’t start dating until our junior year of high school. After graduation we moved to the Dallas area for college and have stayed close ever since. We will have been married for 15 years this July and have 4 beautiful children; a 17 year old daughter, a 14 year old daughter, a 9 year old son, and a 5 year old daughter. I feel very blessed to be able to stay at home with them and take care of our family and home.

We had planned to build a home again but during our search I found this spec home and the moment I walked in I loved it. It was my style with the color selections and it was the perfect size for our family. Another bonus was that it was already complete and ready to move in. We went for it and two months later we moved into our new home.

My favorite part of the home is the long open kitchen, dining and living space in one and we spend the most time gathered in this area as a family. I’ve always loved to decorate my homes to really feel cozy and welcoming. I don’t have one specific design style but like to incorporate in different pieces I like. My home is a mix of modern, rustic, farmhouse and french country. I also try to be minimal in my decor because with having 4 kids I don’t want to have to worry so much about moving things all the time or things getting broken.”

What first caught my eye about this home was definitely the white exterior. There’s something about a white home! I was sold before I even walked in. The 2 porches in the front were also a huge selling point because we love to sit outside and watch the kids play. We have a huge open space in the front of our home that’s almost the size of a football field and perfect for football, baseball or soccer.

The exterior brick paint color is PPG Atrium White and shutters are PPG Black Forest.

Front Porch

We love that this home has 3 outdoor spaces including a front porch, a patio balcony and a side patio. 

Sunshine

A pair of outdoor chairs make this front porch feel even more inviting.

I absolutely love Callie’s kitchen. It’s open and spacious without feeling overwhelming.

The kitchen backsplash tile is Emser Tile 4×10 Metro Honed with an accent over the stove in Emser 12×12 Metro Mosaic.

Kitchen Cabinet

The best part of the kitchen is the long buffet countertop that’s perfect for entertaining because we like to host parties.  This counter space runs almost 15 feet long so it holds all the food you could eat.

The cabinet paint color is PPG Gypsum in semi-gloss.

Great Room

The floors in the main living areas are Red Oak hardwoods scraped lightly with the grain and stained ebony.

Splash of Color

I keep with a pretty neutral theme throughout the year and add in pops of color depending on the season using florals, pillows or artwork. For spring this year I’ve added in light pink, yellow, and teal.

A Little Friend

This is Jinger – pronounced Ginger… we had to change it to a “J” so she would have the same as the other kids!! I got her own couch for her to go in the living room because she’s been scratching up our leather couch with her nails and she loves it!! Target has the cutest doggie beds! I loved this buffalo plaid one and it goes so well with all my other decor!

What an inspiring furniture layout! The large leather sectional is perfect for the entire family to relax and watch something at the end of the day.

Wall & Trim Paint Color

The walls and ceilings throughout the home are painted PPG Whiskers in flat. The trim throughout is PPG Gypsum in semi-gloss.

This home is a little unique because when you first walk in the front door you walk right into the living room, dining room and then the kitchen area. It’s one long space.

Furniture & Decor

I like to shop for larger furniture pieces at Bassett Furniture, Nebraska Furniture Mart or Restoration Hardware. I’ve found that they all have great quality furniture. Most all of my small furniture and decor pieces come from Hobby Lobby, Kirkland’s, Homegoods or Target.

Wood Scrabble Letter Tiles

My gallery wall is still one of my favorite things in the house!! The way this house is built this wall is hidden unless you go up the stairs! Sometimes I’ll go up there just to look at it!

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom is located in the back of the house.

Magnolia Inspiration

I decided I wanted a black a white theme when I saw a photo from Magnolia Home that had beautiful black wood arched frames behind the nightstands. I like to save money when possible so I found my own version from Kirkland’s (similar here) and spray painted them black to get the same look for over half the cost.

Bed & Bedding

The bed set is from the Magnolia Home line at Nebraska Furniture Mart. The bedding and lamps are from Target.

Decor

There’s a small corner in the room that was bare so I found this cute macrame wall hanging (similar here) and an olive plant at Homegoods. It’s very simple but I love it.

Study

The study is in the front of the home off to the side when you come in the front door. I recently completed a makeover in my study by adding Weaber Lumber white washed wall boards from Home Depot to a focal wall and I love how the transformation turned out. It makes the room so bright and open. I also added greenery with these hanging macrame plant hangers from amazon. I decided to save some money by painting a few terra cotta pots from Hobby Lobby to match my decor and filled them with IKEA plants.

To really make the room pop I changed out the lighting to a beautiful wood bead chandelier from World Market. I found this desk at Restoration Hardware a few years ago and both the chair and rug are from Nebraska Furniture Mart.
